Graduate Fashion Show & Scottish Academy of Fashion

I am aware I haven't posted in a while and will try and keep more up to date with both my blogspot and tumblr blogs. Firstly my website is under construction and will hopefully be ready very soon, secondly I have uploaded this recent image from the Heriot-Watt graduate fashion show, where I worked alongside fantastic designers, team and models. There will be a film from the show coming soon. I will also be showcasing at the Scottish Academy of Fashion and Scotland Redesigned fashion show this friday at the Lighthouse if you awe able to come along.

The images from the Heriot-Watt graduate show are by Christopher Heaney.

Pas Un Autre

Last night I uploaded my Graduate Fashion Film to vimeo, I had no intentions of posting my fashion film online and publicly (i.e on blogspot and tumblr) until nearer the Scottish Fashion Awards, however I wanted to have it online, to hand incase I had to show anyone. Luckily for me a beautiful and innovative journal and magazine entitled 'Pas Un Auture' stumbled across my film and posted it on their website which made me feel very honoured and proud.

Here is the link to their website, where you will find my video named after the collection "Societies Labyrinth". I would love to hear some feedback on the film and let me know what you think.

Once again, I must thank photographer Nick Paton for filming and being a life saver on the day of the shoot, MUA Sophie Pasola, Model Elizabete Sing and Reiss Anderson for editing the music perfectly! Without any of them, this would not have been possible.

Scottish Fashion Awards and Graduate Magazine.

As some of you may be aware, I have been short listed for Graduate of the Year at this years Scottish Fashion Awards. I have to say, I am incredibly excited and feel so honoured to be involved in such a prestigious event, which showcases some Scotland's finest creatives. As excited as I am, now all I can think about is what am I going to wear...

In the meantime I have decided to post a few spreads from my graduate magazine, which includes a sneak preview of my graduate collection (images in 2 page spread format). Garments and  magazine/layout have all been created and designed by myself.

Happy Returns

Firstly, I know I haven't been as up to date with my blog as I would have liked to, I've just had so much on recently with the graduate collection and university work. However few things to update on, firstly Im excited to reveal that I have made the cut in the Heriot-Watt, School of Textiles and Design annual show, which is held at the Dovecot, Edinburgh on the 7th of June. All very exciting, I have some incredible music for the show (well I think its epic) not traditional fashion show music, so will be excited to see how the collection looks all together and fully styled with the correct atmospheric music.

Secondly I have set up a tumblr account so check me out over there, I prefer to work on that blog so more regular updates will be over there, you can get me on...

However there will be some construction over the next few weeks on this blog. Also keep your eyes peeled for my fashion film and graduate collection photo shoot shot by the fabulous Nick Paton. Next weekend all will be revealed.

I have not posted on this blog for too long, basically due to the fact I have been incredibly busy working on the collection that you are viewing just now, however I intend to change this by documenting some of the fantastic opportunities that are coming up soon (more to be revealed later on). Also my editorial shoot will be under way this weekend as will my fashion film so keep your eyes peeled over the coming weeks.

Also 'The Act of Perception' blog will be receiving a makeover by the end of the month.

As a fashion student/designer I take inspiration from all aspects of the creative fields. Music is key in developing a sense of style, personality within my work. When you watch a fashion show you only have two things to convey your idea with 1. Your collection. 2. Your song/soundtrack. When thinking about fashion shows and my fashion film I need to portray an emotion in two minutes. Hear is some weekend listening to help sum up the ambient and aggressive nature of my collection.

Let me know your favourites.

Smashing pumpkins, The Stooges, Grinderman, The Vibes and James Blake all videos taken from youtube.

As the collection is slowly but surely developing, my magazine is lurking in the background. Inspired by the compact broadsheet 'I newspaper' taking an established newspaper and condensing it into a more youthful format. This will be the basis of my culture magazine 'Block' featuring my manifesto 'Today/Tomorrow' which is now completed and will be shown on my blog this friday.  Also I have secured an interview with the fantastic Glasgow photograph David Gillanders who will be my main feature spread as well as having a few other inspiring spreads. Hope to have the magazine fully printed and completed by Christmas. In the meantime I will be updating my progress of Block, I will also be updating you all with the collection.

All photographs by David Gillanders featuring the Ukraine children and Glasgow high rise.
